A Wheat Ridge lawmaker with a background in education was the lone Democrat to win an endorsement from the National Federation of Independent Business.
The small-business group endorsed Rep. Sue Schafer and 48 Republican candidates for state House and the state Senate.
“Sue’s always looked at both sides,” said NFIB Colorado director Tony Gagliardi.
Shafer was unaware of the endorsement, having spent the morning at President Obama’s campaign event in Golden. But she expressed her appreciation — and surprise at being the lone Democrat on the NFIB list.
Shafer said when she was married she and her husband owned a family physician’s clinic and a farm, and she understands from those endeavors about making payrolls, equipment purchases and such.
The NFIB reviewed the voting records of all incumbents, and asked challengers and candidates in open seats to submit questionnaires. Those who did not submit a questionnaire weren’t considered for an endorsement, Gagliardi said.
He pointed out that eight of the endorsed candidates are members of NFIB. “We could end up with our own caucus,” he joked.
Here’s the list of candidates who were endorsed.
